Rasmus Kofoed, born in 1974 in Birkerød, Denmark, is a celebrated Danish chef and restaurateur. He is the head chef and co-owner of Geranium, a three-Michelin-star restaurant in Copenhagen.
Kofoed’s Bocuse d’Or career is legendary: he won bronze in 2005, silver in 2007, and gold in 2011, becoming the first person in the competition’s history to compete three times in a row. He won the Danish Bocuse d’Or in 2009 and the European Bocuse d’Or in 2010, paving the way for his ultimate victory at the 2011 Bocuse d’Or World Final in Lyon.
His early career began as an apprentice at Hotel D’Angleterre in Copenhagen, followed by a stint at the two-Michelin-star Scholteshof in Belgium. Returning to Denmark, he worked in various top restaurants before opening his first restaurant, Geranium, in 2009 at Rosenborg Gardens with Søren Ledet. After the original owner went bankrupt, Kofoed reopened Geranium in 2010 at a tower in the Parken Stadium, Copenhagen.
Under Kofoed’s leadership, Geranium achieved its first Michelin star in 2012, a second in 2013, and three Michelin stars in 2016, becoming Denmark’s first restaurant to reach that level. In 2022, The World’s 50 Best Restaurants recognized Geranium as one of the world’s top dining destinations.
Rasmus Kofoed is renowned not only for his technical mastery and creativity but also for his unwavering dedication to Danish fine dining, putting Geranium at the pinnacle of global gastronomy.
