Turanitz Gergely Ferenc

He was born in 1986 in Székesfehérvár, into a first-generation hospitality family. From childhood, every summer he was involved in the daily operations of the Tekergő Restaurant and Motel, run by his family in Velence alongside the M7 motorway, a practice he continued even after applying to the English-language Tourism and Hospitality program at BGF KVIFK. After his years in Budapest, he moved back to his hometown and took over the management of the Tekergő Restaurant and Motel from his father. His sister, Katalin, joined him after her college years, and together they continued their family business. After a full renovation of the Velence restaurant, in 2017 they opened a new venue in Székesfehérvár, the Patent Gastrobar.

The next important step in their professional hospitality journey was purchasing their first barbecue smoker. Together with his sister, he formed their competition team, KGB, which stands for Katka Gergő Barbecue. In 2017, they participated in the first international barbecue competition held in Hungary, which they won, earning them an invitation to the 2018 American Barbecue World Championship.

The year 2018 was spent preparing for the world championship, competing across Europe, England, and even reaching Costa Rica. With the arrival of Covid and the lack of competitions, the operation of their restaurants once again became the focus of Gergely’s life. In 2020, he opened his cooking school, where, alongside guest chefs, he also teaches grill and barbecue courses. “Thanks to” Covid, in 2022 a sourdough bakery was established at the Tekergő Restaurant, expanding their repertoire with the Félúton bakery.

Gergely’s long-term plans include immersing himself as much as possible in the world of competitive steak cooking, as well as successfully continuing the family business. He got married in 2021, and in May 2022 he became the father of a wonderful little girl.
